Well is about time for me to write a new year's entrance to the blog. Currently I'm at sea on board the R.V. Bjarni Sæmudsson in the seasonal cruise that measures the condions of the Icelandic Sea. This is an interesting multidisciplinary cruise in which we go around Iceland sampling the physical, chemical and some biological properties of the ocean. How are the conditions of the sea? well with a bit of humor I will say that the sea is rough and that we are getting tough. So far we have struggled through various storms!!! However as Icelanders know their weather, we have been able to diversify, using the "bad weather time" to change moorings on fiords or to measure the herring stock at the Akureiry Fiord. Let me introduce you to our team: on the CTD measuring temperature and salinity we have Jacek (Poland) and Andreas (Germany), on the water sampling for chemical properties we have Alice (France) and Magnus (Iceland and also chief scientist), also in water sampling but with a more biological focus we have Kristinn (Iceland) and Mia (South Africa) and finally in the LADCP we are two Marias (one from Russia and me from Spain). We are an interesting bunch of young people from diverse countries working together in shifts of 12 hours. And I thought I was going to learn Icelandic!! hahaha
